Welcome to Montrose Estates

At Montrose Estates, eight centuries of stewardship have shaped one of Scotland's most remarkable landscapes. Stretching from Drymen to Milarrochy Bay on the eastern shores of Loch Lomond, the Estate encompasses over 3,400 hectares of diverse countryside, including working farms, native woodlands, peatlands, rivers, wetlands, golf facilities and visitor accommodation. Straddling the Highland Boundary Fault, the Estate could be said to combine the best of both the Scottish Highlands and the Lowlands.

What Drives Us

  • OUR VISION

To be a leading example of responsible land stewardship in Scotland, delivering positive social, economic and environmental outcomes for people and for place.

  • OUR MISSION

To deliver positive social, economic and environmental outcomes from the land and property we own and manage around Loch Lomond.

  • OUR VALUES

Integrity, authenticity and long-term thinking guide everything we do. We foster community, preserve our rich history and heritage, and look forward to the future.

  • 800 years of History

The Graham family has stewarded lands around Loch Lomond since the 13th century. The majority of today’s Montrose Estates property was purchased from the Buchanans in 1682.

  • Restoring Nature

Peatland recovery, woodland expansion, thriving biodiversity. This is a working estate committed to environmental restoration.

  • A Place of the People

Alongside large and growing visitor numbers, the local community is deeply rooted here. The Estate supports better local living and livelihoods as a priority.

What Sets Us Apart

The lands around Loch Lomond hold a special place in the hearts of all Scots and visitors to Scotland. From geological, environmental, historical and cultural perspectives, the heritage around this body of water is considerable. Much of this history has been created and is conserved by the people living and working by its banks. In 2002, these special qualities were recognised with the creation of Scotland’s first National Park. Today, the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park welcomes 4 million visitors every year, making it Scotland’s most popular countryside destination.

Stretching from Drymen to Milarrochy Bay, Montrose Estates spans 3,440 hectares on the east side of Loch Lomond. Our boundary also takes in some 18 miles of loch bed, from the River Endrick in the south to Island I Vow in the north. Three generations of the Graham family, owners of Montrose Estates, live on the Estate and take an active part in the local community.

For over 800 years, alongside our local communities, families, the Estate has endeavoured to create a place that provides a comfortable home, a good living and a cherished environment where productivity and preservation exist in balance. While the context in which we all now live has changed, this approach feels more relevant than ever.
